Task 3_ Concept Presentation
The project presentation demonstrates the culmination of how your design solution effectively addresses a specific need in your targeted audience, utilizing a newly created product or service that brings unique social, cultural and/or economic value.
The focus will be on your attention to details and the successful execution of a wide range of conventions particular to your specific area of specialization including organization, content, presentation formatting, aesthetics and style.
Week 5 03.05.2025
1. Progress
1.1 Creating the logo
- Logo Design Ideas:
- "Fairytale-like": Suggests a whimsical and fantasy vibe.
- "Use Indonesian ethnic fonts": To reflect cultural authenticity and local elements.
- "Simple & vintage": Possibly combining sans serif and serif styles, or mixing old and new aesthetics.
Some logos are enclosed in a gate-like arch or pointed shape, reminiscent of traditional Javanese or Balinese architecture. Inside the gate, the text "CERITA RAKYAT" appears in a simple, serif font.
The phrase "Tales of the Olden" appears as a tagline in some variations, reinforcing the folklore and storytelling theme.
Later Lizzie created the logo that we all agreed to go on with.
1.2 Creating the patterns
- #1 Attempt
Break down:
- Java (Batik Parang): Repeating diagonal patterns with sharp, flowing lines.
- Sumatra (Batik Tiris): Vertical patterns that give a sense of boldness and strength.
- Sulawesi (Teru-teru): Zigzag and wave patterns representing vibrancy and motion.
- Papua: Abstract, freeform designs that hint at organic and spiritual energy.
- Kalimantan: Twisted and flowing shapes, inspired by Dayak motifs.
- #2 Attempt
Break down:
- Java: Uses tendril and foliage motifs inspired by batik patterns. Wooden relief and carved shapes are also explored, showing a combination of straight and curved elements.
- Sumatera:Uses spiral and curving motifs resembling horns and tendrils. Some patterns feature intertwined shapes and floral elements.
- Kalimantan (Borneo): Features ornamental patterns with sweeping curves and intricate lines. Some motifs resemble Dayak patterns, which often have symbolic meanings tied to nature and spirituality.
- Papua: Incorporates bold and abstract motifs with zigzag patterns, representing dynamic movement. Some sketches resemble stylized tribal patterns and simple geometric shapes.
Symbolic Elements:
- Java: Patterns resembling tendril and foliage motifs, often seen in Batik patterns.
- Sumatra: Features geometric and spiral shapes, reflecting dynamic and powerful energy.
- Sulawesi: Uses triangle shapes and abstract forms, often representing cosmology and ancestral roots.
- Papua: Abstract, organic shapes that hint at spirit and nature connections.
- Kalimantan: Curved, flowing lines symbolizing mythological creatures and nature
- Tendril and Leaf Motifs: Represent growth and connection to nature.
- Animal-like Patterns: Symbolize guardianship and strength.
- Geometric Patterns: Balance modern design with traditional heritage.
- Pattern Combinations and Experiments (Bottom Section) Combines flowing curves and tight spirals to create a harmonious blend of various motifs.
1.3 Final Card Design
This is the final card layout design for our game, using the dark navy color to match with our branding and color palette. I tried to match the character's colors with the dark blue, which is quite hard.
This is our prototype to show to the lecturer's they gave us feedbacks about the text layout of the book, and for the illustrations, try to make the characters more 'pop out'.
By doing that, I thought of using perspective to make the characters more dynamic and to showcase their body language more.
To finalize and make the card layout more proper, Aisya helped me in digitalizing the card template to her illustrator (THANK YOU!! i really needed that T_T)

FEEDBACK
Week 6
We made our logo design and already determined the style/color palette of our card game. We also made prototypes of our manual book and cards that we printed. The book layout needs to be cohesive and more flow. We can add our elements from the logo to our book (ornaments). For the card illustrations, try to make the characters more 'pop-out.'
Week 7
We presented our final presentation, given feedback that we have to determine the stye of our card illustration, the use of bold lines and contrasting colors are the way to go. And we need to fix some part of our ppt to add more progress.
REFLECTIONS
Experience
This module has proven to be more challenging than I anticipated, primarily due to my involvement in two group projects simultaneously. I am working on improving my ability to maintain consistent progress with my team members. Despite the challenges we face, this group has provided the most enjoyable experience I have had so far in an academic setting. I am truly grateful to my group members for their dedication and hard work on this module. I hope that their efforts are recognized and rewarded.
Observation
We observed that when the printed cards are complete, the final outcome is truly impressive, showcasing high quality. However, I've noticed that for thin lines and intricate small details, the result tends to appear somewhat blurry, as if the ink has bled slightly into the surrounding area. For next year, we are committed to enhancing the quality of our card designs to ensure a more pristine and vivid representation of our project.
Findings
In group projects, I continue to confront the same challenge that I experienced last semester—my reluctance to seek help. I often find myself feeling embarrassed about asking for assistance, even though my group members are some of the most supportive and understanding individuals I could hope to work with.
However, this group dynamic has significantly contributed to my personal growth. It has encouraged me to connect with my peers on a deeper level and to express my opinions more freely, something I previously struggled with. It's become clear to me that communication is not just about speaking; it's about truly understanding each other's perspectives and finding ways to address any difficulties collectively. This realization has made me appreciate the importance of teamwork and collaboration even more. Thank you again guys!
