Figure 1.1 Week 3 (18/02/2025) Module Information Booklet.

Week 1

Using a processed design framework, you will now produce an infographic report to present the given information to a ‘target audience’ with the purpose of:

1. Creating awareness (such as Global Warming, Recycle, etc.)

2. Explaining a process (such as "how to" video)

3. Defining a concept (such as "What is Fast Fashion", "What is Color Wheel", etc.)

Any time based media and software using photography, vector imagery.

Design Considerations:
  • Organization Principles – LATCH and Content Organization
  • Aesthetic Principles – Animation principles
  • Cognitive Principles – Principles of visualization

Output Expectation:
The presentation must be deliberated on, consider each assessment rubric of sorts to your final outcome:
  • Show causality
  • Multivariate graphics and visuals
  • Integrate word number and images
  • Content count
  • Within eyesight
  • Use multiple charts
  • Do not de-quantify

1. Progress

Week 1

1.1 Discussion & Ideation

We formed a group, and each group will have 7-10 members, after getting formed in a group, we briefly discussed our theme or topic. We've made some ideas, here are the lists:

- How to recycle crayons
- How a seed grows into a tree
- How to make handmade soaps
- How caterpillars transform into a butterflies
- How a volcano erupts
- How a virus spreads
- How to make a mungbean cake
- How animation productions work
- How to conduct the scientific method
- How to make user-centered designs

After deciding on our topic, all of us agreed to feature Mungbean cake in our video, primarily focusing on the steps to make it.

Week 2

After further discussions, our group has decided to expand our topic to encompass Chinese culture, focusing specifically on mooncakes. While it was challenging to find traditional methods for making mung beans, we discovered a variety of informative videos detailing the history and traditional preparation of mooncakes that can be easily replicated at home.

Our goal for the video is to not only engage viewers but also to educate them about the historical significance and cultural importance of mooncakes in Chinese traditions.

To ensure a well-organized presentation, we divided the list of tasks among our group members in preparation for our presentation scheduled for week 7.

opening - introduction (slide 1-3) - valerie
History & mooncake story (slide 4-5) - Yang Jiayi
Why & target audience (slide 6-8) - Sheryne
Video ref & conclusion + closing (9-11) - Tristan

Week 3 &4

1.2 Presentation

In week 3 we finished creating our ppt slide to show to Mr. Fauzi so we can continue our progress.

Week 5

1.3 Storyboard

Following Mr. Fauzi's feedback, we divided our tasks for the video project and made progress on the animation. I have been assigned the task of creating the storyboard.

Script: Tristan Zhang
Voice-over: Yong
Storyboard: Sheryne, Ziyang
Animation: Yang Jiayi, Shao Han, Velicia
Editor/sound effects: Wang Yifan

I did from scene 1 to 20, and 21. While Ziyang did the rest.

Week 6-7

1.4 Animation

For the animation part, i helped to draw some scenes because we were running out of time:

Scene 2:

Scene 5:

Scene 6-7:

2. Final Outcome

  • Final PPT Slides

  • Infographic animation

          FEEDBACK

Week 4
- Make the information simpler.
- Make a script (using voiceover for the video) to be able to visualize the video.
- then make a storyboard.
- The animation doesn’t have to be fully illustrated per frame (I think he meant that we can use motion graphic animation so its easier)

Week 6
- Piechart: the other objects can be smaller while the piechart can be made bigger.
- Think and reevaluate about certain scenes bcs it may too long (with voiceover included).
- Final editing: animate part by part. render so that we will have mov and mp4 (AE). move on to premiere pro: then can just slot in the renders based on timing.
- storytelling: eg. scene 1: highlight certain words like Mooncakes and Tang Dynasty in the animation.

          REFLECTION

Experience
I wished I contributed more on the animation, as I was still uncertain about my skills in After Effects. However, I was occupied with tasks related to my major project. Despite this, my group members worked diligently and were able to complete the video, even though it required them to sacrifice sleep over several days.

Observation
I discovered that creating an infographic video necessitates not only the presentation of cohesive information but also the inclusion of visual elements, such as charts and graphs, that effectively illustrate the key data points. These visual aids enhance the viewer's understanding by breaking down complex information into digestible formats, allowing for a clearer and more engaging representation of the facts being communicated.

Findings
The visuals and information presented in the video must align seamlessly with one another to create a cohesive narrative. During the storyboard development, I made a concerted effort to ensure clarity in the presentation of ideas and concepts. Each scene was designed to effectively convey its message, enhancing the viewer's understanding and engagement with the storyline. The aim was to create a visually striking and informative experience that resonates with the audience.
